23rd May: Back to me

Hi Everyone,
Lee here again. It was just great to see the buzz Mike got from your comments on his posting. (I hope I got the terminology right because I get told off if I use the wrong word for it all.) Many thanks.

We took MIke out for breakfast on Sunday morning - PEB Personal Eating Best? He got himself through a big breakfast with remarkable speed and it all felt so wonderfully normal.

The therapists have taken pity on Mike's one finger typing and did some work on getting back his touch typing today, so he may be able to up the speed soon. His walking is coming along well. If he can just get stable enoujgh to practise on his own I am sure he'll go ahead really rapidly. Mike's now got his sights aimed at getting in the swimming pool. We suspect he has a bit of a shock coming in terms of what he can manage, but it will be another step along the way.

I mentioned a day or two ago that our next family meeting is on Wednesday. It is a good feeling to think back to where Mike was at for the last one - only recently back from the medical ward, still in post traumatic amnesia and simply not well enough to take part in the meeting. This time he will be able to be his own voice, with us just there ar back up.

Mark came around very excited about your last blogg Mike. He wouldn't tell me why but wanted me to read it asap. Great to see that you are up to writing your self. Can't wait to see you again (6 more weeks until my next holidays). Hope that you can get into those togs again soon. It will be like ironman training. As you get more energy you may be able to start 2 disciplines (swimming and walk) a day, not sure that Lee will be letting you near a bike again in a hurry. day.

Keep up the hard work
Big hugs
Rach

Hey Mikey,

Good to hear from you bro, great to see your recovery is going well. I like your attitude mate, yip, i guess things could always be worse. Take me for example - last week our hot water cylinder broke down and i had to go without a shower for 3 days - pee-yew! Ok, maybe i'm being over-dramatic! Anyway cuz, look forward to hearing more updates.

Cheers,

Raj

Dear Mike,

It was wonderful to read your entry on the blog today. You wrote a great long letter despite the one finger typing. I am truly amazed at your progress and although I don't really know you, your progress says alot about the person that you are - determined, focused and energetic. Definitely a role model. It's great that you are able to go out once in a while now too; a change of scene is good for the morale, I'm sure.
Keep up the good work and give your mom and dad a hug from us ok.

Hi, Mike,
Congratulations on your getting the blog typed! This must have been very satisfying for you, but the effort must have been enormous. Like much of your recent life, managing this task must have reinforced what you are up against in your relearning. While one-finger typing pales in importance with your learning to swallow, for example, typing a note is something that we look at from afar and see as a huge landmark in your communications armory. I imagine it was probably just as torturous for those watching and wanting so much to help, as it was for you to get through it! It is a strange aspect of human nature and one which you are strong in, Mike, - the need to assure others around you that you are doing OK. Anyway, from those who are around you in spirit but alas not physically, keep going hard, but do take time to just relax with some fun stuff. If there is no blog entry from you again, for a while, dont worry! - we will know you are getting on with polishing something else up. Cheers from
Rodney and the other Vancouver Vaughans.

What fantastic progress. Sheer guts and determination, good on you Mike. You're right about Lee and Bryce, what more can you say about two neat people, and a great family.
Love and continued best wishes Ben and Anne.
