Communication breakthrough

Well we finally have a little lift off. Mike's Mum told him tonight (in her usual bossy way) to squeeze her hand and he did! So then she repeated the instruction and he responded again. We don't dare hope too much, but this should be the start of what they call 'purposeful movement' - where Mike's brain is a bit more in command of his muscles.

That sounds very hopeful. A very good start to my week (and no doubt for all the Wilkinsons and friends) to hear this news.
Tracy - I'm pleased you've decided to become Mike's sister again. At my age it's hard to cope with complex changes such as these.
Best wishes and love from the Gallaghers (Peter, Di, Tracey and Suzy)
and please note the correct spelling of Tracey!

Well done bossy Lee.....
Thanks for this great use of technology. We can start to get back to work now that updates are available.

I'm also glad to hear it. I've only met Mike once so far when I was up in Auckland for the day, but was, and still am!, hoping he would stick around alot longer to get to know him. Best wishes. Sarah from the Wellington office.

I bet he's using his progressively more accessuble faculties to analyse his way out of the problem. He's gonna be an angry man if he comes to AFTER Ironman.

Great news!

Kind regards, David Steele

Did he show 'efficient form' in the hand squeeze?

Hey Tracey... that's great news that he's at least responding in some small way. We're thinking of him everyday and hoping for the best. Lots of Mike's training buddies have sent me emails wishing him well - they're all collated and on the way in a card (I have sent it to Ben to deliver to Mike).

Hi, Mike, also Lee, Bryce, Tracy and Andrew, and Phil; and the extended Wilkinson clan.
Greetings and thoughts from the Vaughans in Vancouver. We have been following developments through telephone and email, and the web log looks a good option as well.
Mike, we are very very sorry to hear that you have had such a serious accident. We are talking about you a lot more, currently, I guess in this sense your stock has in fact gone up recently.
We think your good physical condition and speed into ICU will set the odds to your full recovery. An of course you are also blessed to be part the Wilkinson family, a wonderful haven of love and support that we have also benefitted from. We are still looking forward to seeing you here somewhere in North America for the PhD study, I hope within a year of schedule.
Lots of fond wishes and thoughts to you.
Rodney, Helen, Meta, Elliot and Gregory.
