Fat Bastard

(For those of you are unsure about the title Fat Bastard was a heavily overweight yet amusing character played by a presumably padded Mike Myers in a couple of recent movies.)

Wednesday (15 June) represented a particularly good day for me. Firstly, I had enough weight to be taken off drinking a protein drink called Fortisip. I was somewhere around 65 kg before the accident and at my lightest measurement I came in at 52 kg. That represents a weight loss of around 20%. If I figured out some way of converting this head injury into something that could be taken I could make a lot of money.

On Tuesday I weighed in at 62 kg. While this represents a big weight gain I tried on a pair of my old trousers over the weekend. The trousers used to fit comfortably. Now, I wouldn’t say they were falling off me, but there is substantially more room than there was before.

I am close enough to my previous weight and my ideal weight that they decided to take me off Fortisip. While I didn’t think Fortisip tasted bad, depending on which flavour you had, the high protein content disrupted my skin and gave me more red rashes and more pimples than normal.

Secondly, and in keeping with the weight thing, I got a trolley on Wednesday. While this represents a minor step in the scheme of things it allows me to cook breakfast for myself and is the first time I’ve been independent in this.

Right. Happy eating.

Kind regards,
Mike

Great to hear you're on breakfast duty now. I'll have a coffee thanks, milk and 1/2 a sugar. We'll bring the bagels.

Hi Mike

Its great to hear that you are making such process. Whilst you're trying to pile on the weight, I'm trying to keep the Heathrow Injection at bay!

Without sounding totally cliche, I just wanted to let you know that your accident and subsquent, might I add, amazing progress has been a huge reminder to me to make the most of each day. Especially at rowing, when the pain kicks in and all I want to do is give up, I have to remember how lucky I am to be able to be out there doing it.

Take care of yourself and enjoy those flat whites

Fella, you'll weigh as much as me soon. Or rather, as much as I used to - these New York-sized meals are playing havoc with my waistline.

Jonno and I are well and truly strapped in at CSFB and they are started to extract their pound of flesh. It's baking hot here at the moment but we don't really have to deal with that as we're locked up in our nice air conditioned office for 18 hours a day. And there's nowhere to get a decent coffee. Whose idea was it to come to New York?

Great to hear about your progress although I pity your fellow patients being subjected to your third world debt theories. Keep up the good work.

Maybe someone can post good times to visit, as I cant find them on blogg.

And to think that I love it when other people cook my breakfast!!!!!
We still tune into your progress every few days and are thrilled and amazed at your rapid recovery in the last month or so. It certainly has to do with your determination, pior fitness and your amazing families dedication to your full recovery.Congratulations all of you. You're an inspiration to others. To keep Bryce out of your hair, Mike, you must suggest that he writes a book, detailing all things that have happened etc. It would be a great help to others and their families in future who need a guidence and hope for a great recovery.

Sounds wonderful.

I have the art of boiling both #6 and #7 eggs in the microwave if you need such information.

Any chance of a photo of you and the trolley - those Shortland Street watchers amongst us may have rather odd ideas of what your trolley might involve!

Hi Mike
More news on the Hutt/caffeine front (confirmations, really!) We've been told that Buzz (with the sofa) is a great haunt, and that The Mayfair in Main Street Upper Hutt has old fashioned coke in a bottle. Hope the brekkie preps are going well - has Phil got any good recipes for you??
Still thinking of you all every day.
