Can't beat Wellington on a cold day

Hi Everyone,

Yesterday Bryce and I took Mike for another car ride. A bit further afield this time and he coped really well. We came into Wellington, bought an icecream and a coffee and sat looking at the new beach at Oriental Bay,feeling that all things considered Life was pretty good. There's a great icecream place on the Bay there called soemthing like Cafe Eis. We also did a smal tour around Phil's new place of work and the location of his new flat - all those changes had happened while Mike was out to it. After that, Mike was pretty tired, so we went home. The apartment was tantalisingly visible, but until he can walk a visit home is not really feasible.

Mike's cycling friend Nicky was down from Auckland and it was great for us all to see her. Nicky's visit reminded Mike of his great circle of friends back there and I think her visit gave him new determination about races etc. When I tentatively suggested aiming for a 10km walk as a starting goal (thinking, hey I could do that too!) I got scorn poured upon it.

Meanwhile it's back to walking practice for Mike and a torso that does not yet obey mental commands yet. But there's definitely progress everyday.

Hey Mike,

Am in old London town now (well small village next to). Were all people here feel the need to finish every sentence with "yeah".

"Know what I mean, yeah?"

Anyhow- am soo slack. I have a bag full of postcards, and even some small pressies for various people and still haven't sent them. No dramas, you get them before xmas anyway, promise! I'll even sort some photos.

Things are good, fairly chilly, and will start the job hunting process shortly.

Am so unfit. Been battling my way through a few one km sessions in the pool and the occaisional 15min run- feel like I want to die when I get back each time though.- Hardly remanisant(??)of Ironman days.

Fantastic news about your swimming- am sure you'll be kicking butt sometime soon again.

Take care,

Lou.

Sounds like your making great progrees Mike. Awesome news that you're back in the pool too.

I have Ben & Libby, Sam & Sarah and a couple of others coming to crash in Cambridge this weekend. If you get a chance to see the Lions vs the Maoris, we'll be at the game doing something foolish to get on telly.

Thin edge of the wedge Lee. Reckon 10 kms walks [could] lead to marathons....or maybe no way! Excellent that Mike is now getting the cosmopolitan view. Way to go. Aroha Lesley M

Mike, you are totally amazing. Thought I should post something to let you know that Sam and I continue to follow your progress via the blog each week and are so impressed by your achievements, as I'm sure everyone else is. We'll have a drink for you at the Lions game this weekend.
Keep up the posts,
Sarah Elliot.

Hey Mike,

Great to here you finally got into the pool, must have been nice to do a few strokes after so long!! I've been incredibly impressed with your e-mails - and scrutinising them for the typical head injury errors but your making it hard. I think your typing is better now than before your accident!! Paul and I are hoping to stop over at Wellington either on our way down to chch or on our way back up to Auckland, probably in a few weeks time, and really looking forward to catching up properly.

From the sounds of it, your really doing amazing with your rehab, keep it up.

Love Kim and Paul

It's great to be reading about your ongoing progress Mike. Swimming may certainly be exhausting but it always seems to be a "good" kind of tired. Caught up with the Archers last week during their flying visit and their talk of excessive cycling! Keep on with those PBs - I love reading about it all.

Take care.

Hey Mike,

Thanks for the blogs, its great to hear about your progress straight from you. Jeremy and I are now settling into life in the OC. He has started work at PWC and seems to be enjoying it. I am waiting for my US work permit to arrive. It feels like it is taking forever.

We are going camping in Yosemite National Park next week - American Style Camping!!! car, cooler bags, bear protection and the kitchen sink. The bear protection is no joke.. failure to take all precautions can end up in a $5000 fine...as you can imagine Jeremy is threatening to set a trap to attract one!!!

Have just had Andy Barlass and Hamish Tait to stay for a couple of nights before they flew out to the UK. We would love to send you a newsy email about what we are up to/have been up to. Do you have an email address you are using? Can we send one to your parents email address? Or you can email us at rachelwinstone@hotmail.com

Thinking of you heaps
Love Rach and Jeremy
