May 18th: Quiet day for Mike

A bit quieter couple of days for Mike. Probably the main event was Bryce getting back from ten days in the US. There is a scurry of testing happening, so we presume this is to meet the deadline of our next family meeting on Wednesday next week. I look at some of the tests and wonder how us non-brain injured people would score. Some tests are cognitive and earlier this week there was one called Behavioural Recall which seemed to relate more to practical recall relevant to aspects of every day life - so skills such as remembering names, remembering to ask a question during an appointment, remembering where you put something and so on.

Mike's walking is gradually getting more stable. I presume once he is more steady he will be able to practise on his own and make more rapid progress. I gather that at the moment there are quite a range of skills the therapists would like to work on, but they have to just focus Mike's small amounts of energy on the highest priorities.

Regards to all

Lee

Dear All
Great to read the last two postings - especially to hear that you are walking on our own Mike - albiet with Lee and chair following closely behind! Am plotting food. When I get back maybe I can stoke up the old camp fire in the Cavit grounds and bring you some toasted marshmellows and damper with jam that you loved at Totaranui.
Much love from Samoa

Hi Wilkinsons,

Great to hear Mikes still doing well.

In mention of one of the last posts, I have a few audio book cds that mike might like. douglas adams - hitch hikers guide to galaxy, and Starship Titanic. Red Dwarf- based on TV series. and fight club (though this could be a bit complicated and depressing.)

Let me know if Mike would like these (385 4741), and I will leave some in the mail box.

It is brillant to be able to check the blog again regularly!

Now that you are eating Mike, I have found the perfect chocolate bar over here for you, I wont ruin the surprise... you'll have to wait for some to arrive your way! High in calories too...oh how i wish i needed your diet!

Thinkin of you all!

Take care - Kylie

Hey Mike,

glad to hear you are doing so well.

Have postcards to send and photos to develop but have just come from Phi Phi and quite simply the Tsunami had washed things like post offices and photo shops away. So you'll still get them- just a little late.

Keep up your hard work Mike.

Lou :-)

Mike

Sounds like you're still progressing well. Good luck with your exams.

Everything is going well in Auckland. You'll be pleased to know they've opened a new Belgian Beer bar at the top of college hill. Nothing else exciting to report.

Keep up the good work

Dave
