13 March Update

Mike had a much better day today, much to his parents' relief. For much of the day his breathing was relaxed, ie normal.
A friend told us today that the 'storming' of the last couple of days is a common part of the process of recovery and should not be read as a sign of anything going wrong. It could be stress related. We aim to check this out with the professional staff tomorrow.
He was at his most alert today listenening to Mary reminding him of pre-high school holidays at Totaranui. He also responded to Lou's voice telling him that she was leaving on her OE, but would see him in a year.
We still expect him to be shifted down to Lower Hutt around 8.30-9.00 am this Wednesday.
Thanks to you all for the messages of support and all the useful ideas for helping that just keep pouring in.

Mike's Dad

Another of Mike's many old friends from College House and UofC checking in.

My thoughts are with Mike and all of you during this time. Thank you for the regular updates - keeping those of us who have had the privilege of meeting and getting to know Mike informed about his progress. Craig

Hello all,

Well it seems we will be passing each other in the air Mike as i am flying back up to Auckland from Palmy on Wednesday at 8.00am so i'll wave a crutch at an appropriate point in the flight. Good luck with the next stage of your recovery mate.

lee, on Friday morning at my water aerobics at Southport the teacher got the 35 women to chant "Go Mike Wilkinson new Zealand" while exercising in time with the music for about 5 minutes,so that should send positive vibes across the ocean!!!.
Your cousin Ben's[who used to live next farm] daughter Katherine and a friend have surfing lessons in Surfers this morning. They are with us another two or three days as they have impressed us and we enjoy their company{keeping up the good Brown name!!!!} and then they go into a backpackers accomadation in Surfers Paradise for 2 days before heading to Melbourne then back to NZ.
Love Lynn Gerrard.

Dear Mike, Lee, Bryce, TJ & Andrew & Phil,
We're in Queenstown, Tasmania... definitely different from Queenstown NZ... a very depressed ex mining area. It's so good to have the blog site to keep us up to date with Mike's progress. One of our 7 friends travelling with us is a nurse in a neuro surgery hospital in Sydney. Judy's been great at reassuring us about Mike's progress as she deals with head injury patients every day.
Lots of love & hugs all around
Jane, Gerald & Unilever friends.

Hey Mike,
I bet your excited about your flight back to Wellington. There's nothing like going home for a visit. Mum's coming over this week. Going to take her to a Sumo Grand Tournament next week. Should be great fun. We took Marg last year when she came to visit. I think Jenny Craig would have a field day with some of these boys. Anyway, have a safe flight and enjoy the last of Summer. See you soon.

Hi Lee and Bryce,

Great to hear Mike had a better day. I'm still tracking down some info about the Facial-Oral tract therapy that I spoke to you about briefly. There's some good info about it on this website: www.arcos.org.uk/html/G1_fott.htm I'll be able to get some more specifics tomorrow which I can send by snail mail. Ask Anna (SLT)what her thoughts are about this, she's probably doing something similar already.

Best of luck with the move down to Wellington,
Love Kim

Hi Lee and Bryce
We've never met Mike, but if he is anything like you two, he must be a pretty neat person. We are thinking of you a great deal. Mike might like these whimisical answers to questions put to small children about their Mums

Fond thoughts. Adrienne von T, Peter McK.

Why did God make mothers?
- Think about it. It was the best way to get more people.
How did God make mothers?
- He made my Mum just the same like he made me. He just used bigger parts.
Why did God give you your mother and not some other Mum?
- God knew she likes me a lot more than other people's Mums like me.
What ingredients are mothers made of?
- God makes mothers out of clouds and angel hair and everything nice in the world, and one dab of mean.
What kind of little girl was your Mum?
- They say she used to be nice.
Is anything about your Mum perfect?
- Just her children.
If you could change one thing about your Mum, what would it be?
- I'd make my Mum smarter. Then she would know it was my sister who did it and not me.
